Best brisket ever! There, I said it. On Friday night, I headed down to Roncesvalle Village to try out what many rated as the best BBQ in Toronto; and it sure didn’t disappoint. We arrived pretty late at 9:45pm (closes at 11), the place was still packed. Luckily, it was only a 15 minutes wait until we were seated by the friendly and helpful hostess. To my surprise, popcorn was provided to go with the beers.
We ordered the BBQ sampler for 2 (choose from 3 of 4 mains and 3 of numerous sides). Brisket, competition chicken thigh and baby back ribs; with fries, smoked asparagus and cuban corn for sides. All the selections came highly recommended by the hostess and server. The chicken was nicely cooked, not dry at all. To my surprise, the baby back ribs were not phenomenal (you would expect the best smokehouse to have the best baby back ribs since it’s a staple). However, the brisket made up for everything. The balance between fat and meat was right-on; and the flavour was perfect (you can add more by using sauce served in tiny tin buckets).
In terms of the sides… fries had a twist with a dip that had a lemon zest to it, cuban corn was nicely done, and the highlight was the smoked asparagus. The asparagus was cooked just right (with a bit of a crunch) and slightly flavoured to balance out the meat dishes.
For dessert, we ordered the poached peach ginger gobbler crumble. Our waitress recommended the pecan pie with ice-cream but I’ve never been a big fan of pecans.
The atmosphere was great… casual, nothing pretentious, warm. Hostess and waitress were really friendly, made the experience that much better. I will definitely return to try their beef ribs and have more of that delicious brisket!
